Next to math, our most popular category of tutor is one we call a “homework coach.” This is a tutor who works with their students two or more days after school, focusing on study skills and keeping them motivated and on-track with all their school subjects.

• History test coming up? The homework helper can supervise preparation of flash cards and quiz the student the night before the test.
• Big English project? We'll help the student plan ahead, prepare an outline, conduct research, and schedule time for reviewing the final product.

A good homework coach can remove the tension in the home resulting from fights over homework and school performance. Our best homework coaches are often young college grads who remember what high school was like. They end up being as much a mentor as tutor.

Homework coaches work especially well with students who have executive processing challenges or attention deficit disoriders (ADD/ADHD). The coach can provide the extra level of support that keeps such children from getting overwhelmed or frustrated.
